DROP: co-designed Decision support system and solutions for flood Resilience with and for People

Commissioner: Fundazione CARIPLO (IT)

Duration: 01.09.2025 – 31.08.2027

Project description:
The project aims at raising flood risk awareness among local stakeholders and citizens, empowering communities with the capacity to take effective actions. To achieve these objectives, innovative tools will be developed with a holistic and multidisciplinary approach: (1) Develop a Decision Support System to assist decision-makers in assessing the effectiveness of measures, ensuring sustainability and guaranteeing the active involvement of stakeholders to enhance societal acceptance. (2) Develop innovative flood damage monitoring and forecasting tools, with a special focus placed on short and long-term damage to the population and the environment. (3) Assess potential non-structural or “soft” measures and develop a replicable participatory process for the identification and definition of 'community-based' policies.

To achieve these goals, the ‘Geography and Disaster Risk Research’ working group, together with project partners, is conducting surveys of affected and non-affected private households, supporting the construction of a soft-measures catalogue, and supporting the development of the damage monitoring and forecast tools.
