Student Tutors and Departmental Student Representatives
At the start of the semester, many departments offer orientation sessions and welcome events for newly enrolled students. These are organized by students for students, often by tutors and members of the departmental student committees (Fachschaftsräte). These orientation sessions address common questions about studying, such as:
- How do I create my course schedule?
- What does everyday student life look like?
- How do I give presentations?
The sessions also cover broader aspects of studying at university, including motivation, learning strategies, study planning, career options, note-taking, working with academic texts, writing term papers, preparing for exams, and self-assessment. In addition, there are informal activities such as campus tours and social events (e.g., pub nights), which provide opportunities to get to know other students in a relaxed setting.
Tutors and departmental student representatives also typically introduce themselves during introductory events at the beginning of the semester. Information about their activities is updated regularly in the overview below.

Master's Programs
Please note: In non-teacher education programs offered by the Faculty of Arts, the Faculty of Human Sciences, and the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences, a range of topics is covered in a mandatory course on key competences. These courses are taught jointly by student mentors and instructors and often begin during orientation week, before the start of regular classes. Further information is available here.
