The first days at university raise many questions. At the UP.START orientation day, you will get to know your campus, meet students in higher semesters, student councils, and central contact points, and pick up all the important tips for a successful start in Potsdam.

Schedule and Registration
All presentations, workshops, and the information fair will take place in Building 6 on Griebnitzsee Campus; you can find the Market of Opportunities in the area in front of Building 1. Just drop by and ask your questions during the workshops, events, or at the information booths. If registration is required, this will be clearly indicated in the attached event program.
Photographs and video footage
Photographs and video footage will be taken at UP.Start – der Orientierungstag, in which you may appear. These photographs and video clips will subsequently be used for the University of Potsdam’s public relations work (University of Potsdam brochures, the University of Potsdam website, and the University of Potsdam’s Facebook and Instagram accounts). If you do not wish to be photographed or filmed, please inform the photographers on site. Information on data protection and your rights can be found in our privacy policy.

How does choosing your meal work? How do you pay? And what actually happens to the tray when you’re done? Our canteen team will show you, step by step in 20-minute sessions, how a visit to the canteen works. Purpose of the processing
As part of the “UP.Start - der Orientierungstag“event, the University of Potsdam will take photographs and record video footage, which it will subsequently publish (in University of Potsdam brochures, on the University of Potsdam website, and on the University of Potsdam’s Facebook and Instagram accounts). The purpose of taking and using these photographs and video recordings is to inform the public about the University’s activities.
Lawfulness of processing
The legal basis for data processing is Art. 6 Abs. 1 S. 1 lit. e DSGVO i. V. m. § 3 Abs. 11 BbgHG, § 5 Abs. 1 BbgDSG.
Type of data
As part of the “UP.Start - der Orientierungstag“ event, the University of Potsdam will be taking photos and filming.
Recipients of your data
The employees responsible for creating and publishing the photos and videos from Division 2.C: Central Student Advising / Student Marketing, the “Center for Information Technology and Media Management (ZIM),” and the “Center for Quality Development in Teaching and Learning (ZfQ)” have access to the data. Other recipients include Meta Platforms, Inc. (Instagram and Facebook).
Transfers to Third Countries
It cannot be ruled out that uploading photos and videos to Facebook or Instagram may result in the storage of data on servers located in the United States and thus outside the European Union or the European Economic Area. However, the European Commission has issued an adequacy decision regarding data processing by companies certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework. Meta Platforms, Inc. is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework.
Duration of data processing
The photos and videos will be retained for as long as necessary to inform the public about the “UP.Start - der Orientierungstag“ event. They are expected to be stored for a maximum of five years.
Please note that, in the case of online publications, it is not possible to guarantee the complete deletion of data that has been downloaded by third parties.
Obligation to provide data
The provision of this data is not required by law or by contract, nor is it necessary for the conclusion of a contract.
Automated decision-making and profiling
We do not use automated decision-making, including profiling.
Your rights:
You have the right to obtain from the controller confirmation as to whether or not your personal data is being processed, and, if that is the case, access to the personal data and additional information (right of access). You also have the right to obtain from the controller without undue delay the rectification of inaccurate personal data. If the legal requirements of Art. 17 or 18 GDPR are met, you are entitled to the erasure of your personal data or to a restriction of processing.
