Research Focus

The Sedimentology  group at Universität Potsdam investigates the biological, physical, oceanographic and climatic processes that shape the sedimentary Earth System record. Our understanding of the interactions within the Earth system is  essential to forecast the impact of human activities on the environment we live in. Additionally, our work revolves around the sedimentary and diagenetic processes impacting naturally porous media, as a basis  to predict the evolution of fluid flow paths in sedimentary basins for sustainable energy utilization.

In our research, we employ a broad range of datasets, both in the surface and subsurface, outcrop analogue studies and marine geology, and well as forward modelling.   We work across a range of spatial and temporal scales.  Our group is diverse and international, with PhD students and researchers from different countries countries and varied backgrounds.
