Fission Track Labor

Das Labor ist mit einem Leica DMR-Mikroskop mit Zeichentubus, einem computergesteuerten Kinetek-Tisch, einem Calcomp-Digitizing-Tablett und der FT Stage-Software ausgestattet. Am triaxialen Kopf des Mikroskops ist eine Videokamera angebracht, so dass eine Gruppe von Personen einen Objektträger gleichzeitig betrachten kann. Zurzeit analysieren wir nur Apatite. Wir planen jedoch, in Zukunft auch Zirkone zu analysieren. Die Spaltspurgruppe der Universität Potsdam wird von apl. Prof. Edward Sobel geleitet. Er studierte Beckenanalyse und Apatit-Spaltspurenanalyse an der Stanford University unter der Leitung von Dr. Stephan Graham und Dr. Trevor Dumitru. Seine thermochronologische Ausbildung setzte er mit einem Postdoc-Stipendium in Clermont-Ferrand fort, wo er 40Ar/39Ar-Thermochronologie bei Dr. Nicolas Arnaud studierte sowie Apatite im FT-Labor der ETH Zürich bei Dr. Diane Seward analysierte. Im Jahr 1996 kam er nach Potsdam, um das FT-Labor aufzubauen. Im Jahr 2008 verbrachte er 6 Monate an der Universität von Melbourne, um Einzelheiten der (U-Th-Sm)/He-Methode zu erlernen. Ed Sobel war Editor von OnTrack, einem Newsletter der internationalen Fissiontrack-Gemeinschaft, der zweimal im Jahr elektronisch veröffentlicht wird.
