Microbes and Carbonates interactions in Shallow Marine Tropical Carbonate Systems

Photo: Thomas Teillet

This multidisciplinary project investigates how microbial communities influence carbonate sediments (i.e., taphonomy) in modern shallow-marine environments such as reefs, shoals, and mangroves. We focus on understanding the development of early diagenetic microtextures (i.e., micritization), which are key to interpreting the evolution and reservoir quality of ancient and subsurface carbonate systems.
