Carbonates as Reservoirs – understanding and predicting variations in muti-scale properties

Projects in this area aim to advance our understanding of the 3D depositional architecture, stratigraphic discontinuities, and diagenetic heterogeneities of carbonate and mixed sedimentary systems. This is achieved through the integration of detailed outcrop logging, 3D geological modeling, subsurface datasets, and petrophysical analyses.

A key regional focus is the Tunisian shelf and onshore areas, where extensive carbonate platforms offer valuable insights into depositional and post-depositional processes. In Malta, geological formations are of particular importance as they serve as the country’s primary aquifers, supplying fresh water to the population and highlighting the link between stratigraphy and hydrogeological resources.
