We are pleased to announce the 9th Potsdam PhD Workshop in Empirical Economics. The aim of the workshop is to give talented young researchers the opportunity to present and discuss their research. The workshop will be accompanied by a lecture series on Practical Guidance for Survey and Field Experiments held by Jens Hainmüller. Amanda Agan will give a keynote lecture on Labour Markets and Crime.
The Speakers
Jens Hainmueller is the Kimberly Glenn Professor of Political Science and Director of Graduate Studies in Stanford’s Department of Political Science. He co-directs the Stanford Immigration Policy Lab and is a Faculty Affiliate at the Stanford Center for Causal Science, the Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence, and the Europe Center. Hainmueller’s research spans statistical methods, causal inference, immigration, and political economy, and he has published 70 articles with over 40,000 citations. Many of his works appear in top journals, including Science, Nature, and the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), as well as leading journals in political science, statistics, economics, and business.
Amanda Agan is Associate Professor at Cornell University. Her research lies at the intersections of economics, law, and public policy with a focus on the economics of crime and labor market discrimination. Her work studies the consequences and determinants of criminal legal involvement and how various policies can change the incentives of defendants, criminal justice actors, and people with records—with a particular emphasis on how criminal involvement impacts labor market opportunities (and vice versa). She also studies sources of and policies to constrain the impacts of discrimination in the labor market and other spheres. She has published in the most renowned journals in economics, including the Quarterly Journal of Economics and the Review of Economics and Statistics.
Audience
The 9th Potsdam PhD Workshop in Empirical Economics is open to 20 doctoral students and postdocs within two years after dissertation completion. Participants will be given the opportunity to present and discuss their own research in a poster session. We encourage all young researchers interested in Empirical Economics to apply.
