ZEIF (Potsdamer Zentrum für empirische Inklusionsforschung) is an interdisciplinary consortium of academic researchers from diverse research groups within the Faculty of Inclusive Education at the University of Potsdam.
Through the signing of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in 2009, children with special needs gained a legally enforceable right to inclusive education. This convention sparked broad discussion regarding normative aspects of integration and inclusion and their related meanings. Yet, empirical research is still needed to fully understand the process of how best to implement integrated and inclusive educational opportunities for all children (Lindsay, 2007; Kavale & Mostert, 2003).
ZEIF aims to help in narrowing this empirical gap. In doing so, a solid foundation for practical application is also being created.
The Potsdam Center for Empirical Research on Inclusive Education is composed of professors and research associates from across research groups within the Faculty of Inclusive Education at the University of Potsdam. Each research group is primarily represented by at least one faculty member and PhD student. Funding is provided by the individual resources of the involved research groups.
ZEIF is closely associated with a national research group of the same name (Zentrum für Empirische Inklusionsforschung, www.zeif.org).
