You are not sure yet what you could write about? Maybe you already have a rough idea but don’t know how to generate a good topic and an interesting research question from it? In this workshop, you will find out.
You will learn how to make your ideas visible and how to work with them.
A good topic is the basis for all further steps; together with the research question, it represents the common thread of your writing process and your text.
Date and Time: 18.11.22, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Instructor: Alyssa Schmid
Place: Campus "Neues Palais", House 19, Room 3.18

In this workshop, we will discuss the pitfalls of writing an academic text in English (as a non-native speaker) from a structural perspective. A well-structured text will help your reader to follow your thoughts and understand your line of argumentation. We will also discuss how to develop an outline for the text and thereby plan the writing process.
Date and Time: 02.12.22, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Instructor: Janina Deilke and Nora Lange

Is your pile of books also growing faster than you can read? Do you also have the impression that your memory of what you have already read fades too quickly? In this workshop, you will learn about reading as a differentiated process and become familiar with different reading techniques. The goal is to break down the reading process into several steps and to critically question conventional reading patterns. In addition, we want to encourage you to try out new approaches to reading and thus to approach new texts in a more variable way. The respective reading techniques are thereby suggestions for the individual design of a more productive and sustainable reading, which accompanies the entire writing process. Please have at least one text of your own ready.

The last stage of your writing does not need to be a cumbersome process of rewriting, correcting and rearranging. In order to successfully master this final stage of your writing process, we will give you some tools to design it according to your needs. We will explore different text levels and you will learn how to plan and organise this phase.

It can be very frustrating to work on a project over months and to struggle forward while writing, researching, working and living at the same time. Sometimes, this can make PhD students feel lonely and especially under the given circumstances regular exchange with the supervisor and fellow PhD candidates may suffer. In order to create a feeling of togetherness in these challenging days, the Writing Centre opens its virtual doors for PhD students from all areas in order to exchange experiences, and we will present some tools you may need to gain back motivation.
On March , a brand new round of our Module Paper Workshop will begin. A small group of students will be supported and accompanied in writing a (module) paper in English.
Students of all disciplines are welcome to join.
