Project description

Virtual reality (VR) applications, such as the VR classroom (Wiepke et al., 2019, 2021), provide teacher students with authentic practice opportunities that are effective for learning (Huang et al., 2022). To this date, such VR practice opportunities have been offered to teacher students almost exclusively in traditional teaching-learning environments, for example, in educational science seminars. Against this background, the goal of the project is to train teacher students as "VR Teaching Partners" following the train-the-trainer approach. Firstly, the "VR Teaching Partners" acquire competencies in criterion-guided observation and reflection of lessons. In addition to that they learn how to design a supportive feedback discussion and the independent implementation of VR exercises in a seminar. In a second step, the "VR Teaching Partners" then offer other teacher students VR practice opportunities outside of fixed seminar structures and reflect on the quality of the lessons together with them. In this way, the project contributes to an increase in digitally supported practice elements in teacher training and also creates meaningful moments of peer-to-peer learning
