During your studies at UP you will sometimes also have to contact external service providers, such as health insurance agencies or the local authorities. To help you get acquainted with them, we have listed the most important external service providers below.
The main task of the Public Health Department Potsdam is to secure and promote health related matters of the population, observe and evaluate the latest developments of the pandemic and create necessary supportive offers.
Berlin's 12 Public Health Departments are responsible for the health care services of the population on a disctrict level.
With its various social services, the Studentenwerk Potsdam provides the framework for successful studies. They take care of more than 30.000 students at universities in Potsdam, Brandenburg an der Havel and Wildau. No matter whether it is about offering a healthy lunch, providing affordable accommodations, helping with financial matters, giving advice in difficult times or helping to find a job.
Everyone living in Germany is required to register their address. For stays of three months or longer, you must register your address within two weeks of your arrival. To do so, please make an appointment right away at the beginning of your stay with the Citizen Services Office in Potsdam

Please note: New appointments are available each day (Monday to Saturday) at 8:00 a.m. Therefore, please try to secure an appoinment at 8:00 a.m.
For all appointments, please remember to bring your passport / identification.
To register, you also need a confirmation from your landlord / guest house called "Wohnungsgeberbestaetigung".
The Foreigners’ Registration Office is responsible for matters related to laws concerning foreigners, as well as the granting and extension of residence permits.
If you do not have an EU passport and intend to stay in Germany longer than three months, then you must apply for a residence permit at the Foreigners’ Registration Office where you live (unless you already have a long-term visa for the entire duration of your stay). This also applies to you, if you could enter without a visa. You will then need to apply for a Student Residence Permit within the first 90 days of your stay in Germany.
