Scholarship Providers / Stipendiengebende Organisationen

Information about the benefits according to the Federal Education and Training Assistance Act (BAföG).
Citizens of the European Union, refugees as well as migrants with a settlement permit can receive BAföG as financial support during their studies, if appropriate requirements such as age and suitability for the desired education and training as well as private income and assets are met. Students with a residence permit to study are not entitled to BAföG.

Please consult the German version of this website for a list of scholarship providers in Germany. Most foundations listed there require that applicants possess a basic or good level of German if they wish to be considered as candidates.
Below you can find information about Scholarship Providers who do not require proficiency of the German language as a basic requirement for the application.


Alfred Toepfer Natural Heritage Scholarship

The EUROPARC Federation, with the support from Alfred Toepfer Stiftung F.V.S. awards scholarships to young professionals in order to enhance international cooperation and to advance the quality, innovation and European dimension of Protected Area management.

Application requirements:

  • have a European nationality
  • candidates must be under 35
  • be employed by a Protected Area or nature conservation organisation or be employed by an organisation that develops its work in a Protected Area
  • applications for study visits to prepare master or doctoral thesis will not be considered

Due to the COVID-19 situation, the Alfred Toepfer Natural Heritage Scholarship will not be awarded in 2021. We aim to continue in 2022.

Berliner Spenersche Stiftung

Application requirements:

  • anyone whose income does not exceed double the Hartz-IV rate can apply for the scholarship 
  • The scholarship only extends to one semester; payment is made during the lecture period. One-time extensions possible.
  • Study abroad programs are not funded.

Das Universitätsstipendium Potsdam (The University Scholarship Potsdam)

Das Universitätsstipendium Potsdam (The University Scholarship Potsdam) is announce once a year by the University of Potsdam and you can always apply for the winter semester. The monthly funding amounts to 300 EUR in a period of two semesters up to a maximum of the standard period of study.

Application requirements:

Students from all disciplines who are properly matriculated at the University of Potsdam (except doctoral students) are funded. It focuses on students with excellent academic achievements in the respective subject area,  socially engaged, with international and professional experience as well as special biographical challenges.

Evangelische Studierendengemeinde Berlin

ESG Berlin-Notfonds

The Ecumenical Emergency Fund (ESG Berlin-Notfonds) provides financial support for students from Africa, Asia and Latin America or another OECD country. The following students are not funded: foreign students holding a German university entrance qualification; Students with German / European spouses.

Application requirements:

The financial aid can be requested in case of a social emergency, to promote students who have a study-related temporary residence, are in an examination or internship situation, and are completing a "ERST-STUDIUM" in Germany. To repeat the application, social and development policy engagement must be provided.

Social counselling; one-time financial help in case of a difficult financial situation; Study financing counselling. 

Studienabschlussbeihilfe des DAAD

Degree Completion Grant from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) for international students at the University of Potsdam (foreign students) who are in the graduation phase and who have previously financed themselves.

Application requirements:

  • students with excellent academic achievements in previous studies
  • properly conducted studies
  • it must be clear that an examination result can be achieved in one year
  • economic need
