100 Years of DAAD

The University of Potsdam is celebrating 100 years of DAAD!
What is the DAAD?

Since its foundation in 1925, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) has been supporting international students, researchers and staff who come to Germany - as well as people from Germany who want to go abroad. The DAAD is also the national agency for Erasmus+, the European program for educational and exchange mobility.

How are we celebrating the anniversary?
100 years of history are an occasion to celebrate - and to pause for thought: We are collecting testimonials from alumni, staff and students of the University of Potsdam who have benefited from the DAAD. On this page you will find personal stories full of gratitude - perhaps you too will feel inspired to say “Thank you, DAAD!”

100 Years of DAAD - Interview with Katharina Schmitt and Oliver Günther

“A strong mediator in the midst of global crises” - What makes the DAAD so important

Founded in 1925 as a student initiative in Heidelberg, the German Academic Exchange Service, or DAAD for short, will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2025. During this time, the funding organization has supported around three million students and researchers in Germany and abroad - including at and from the University of Potsdam. Matthias Zimmermann spoke to its President, Prof. Oliver Günther, and the Head of its International Office, Katharina Schmitt, about the DAAD's tasks and successes as well as its wishes for the future.

DAAD Experiences

Welcome to our DAAD Experiences!
Every month we present a new highlight directly from our students and researchers who have had unforgettable experiences abroad. Whether exciting study projects, new friendships or cultural discoveries: These experiences would not have been possible without the support of the DAAD.

Let us inspire you and join our students and researchers on their own personal adventures. Have fun browsing!
