COURSES
Registrations
Registration for courses takes place during the enrollment, registration, and withdrawal period set by the university via PULS*. Late registration or deregistration is not possible. If you have issues enrolling in a course during this period, please first check the PULS help pages. If you still have questions, please contact the PULS team.
*Guest auditors should contact the assistant of the chair or the instructor in a timely manner.
Admission
Technical admission to courses begins with a delay compared to the registration period, but no later than one week after the registration deadline.
Once you are admitted to the course, you can attend it. Further information is usually provided via email by the instructor shortly before the first session.
In seminars, we have set a maximum number of participants to ensure proper supervision. The selection of admitted students is based on the study program and academic progress. In cases of equal suitability, a random selection process decides admission to the course. Please keep this in mind when planning your semester and have a Plan B in place in case you are not admitted to the seminar.
PULS and Moodle
PULS:
is the official teaching and study portal of the University of Potsdam. PULS is your study organizational platform. You log in with your central university account. Here, you register for courses and can view your grades. PULS shows you the general requirements, the module description, the credit points, and what is required to pass the module.
The PULS team has uploaded an introductory video on YouTube that explains how to use PULS for beginners. Click here to watch the video.
Moodle:
is the central e-learning platform of the University of Potsdam. You log in with your central university account. Here, instructors provide various educational materials for your courses. Additionally, the courses offer you a chance to connect with your fellow students, ask questions, organize study groups, and much more.
Courses are set up on a semester basis and are usually password-protected. This means you must enroll separately in the courses. You will receive the password for the course during the first sessions of the class and/or in the initial email before the first lecture. We close our courses after the official enrollment period for courses has ended. Make sure to enroll in the course by then!
Forgot your password: ask your fellow students or contact the assistant of the chair.
Consultation hours
Do you have questions that you would like to discuss personally with the course instructor?
Content-related questions are only answered during the courses. Please contact your instructor via email. If you need to reach Prof. Dr. Andrea Liese, please contact the assistant to arrange an office hour appointment. In this email, be sure to specify which course you are referring to, include your full name, and state your concern. The more information we receive, the better we can assist you. Please check the respective profile page beforehand to see when and how office hours take place.
EXAM | PORTFOLIO ASSESSMENT | MODULE EXAM
Registration
To participate in the exam, you must register separately for the module exam via PULS.
In order to complete the seminars, you must also register for the portfolio assessment via PULS, in addition to registering for the course, to complete the module. Only then can we enter a grade for you. Please be sure to adhere to the registration deadlines! Late registration outside of the designated period is not possible and will result in failing the module.
Posting of grades
Grades are typically recorded during the semester break. Grading, especially for the exam, may take more time. We kindly ask you to refrain from inquiring about the timing of the grade recording.
You are sick and can't attend?
In the event of illness, a medical certificate and the accompanying form must be submitted to the Central Examination Office (Academic Office) of the University of Potsdam within 7 calendar days (5 working days, excluding public holidays) after the onset of the illness. The postmark date is decisive in this matter.
Attempted deception
If you influence the result of your examination through cheating or the use of unauthorized aids, the corresponding examination performance will be marked as "unsatisfactory" (5.0).
Unexcused Absence
The examination performance is rated as "unsatisfactory" (5.0).
Seminar Papers
Instructions Seminar Paper
Second Attempt
If you have registered for an examination within a course but have not submitted a term paper by the end of the examination period or have not passed the examination performance, you may request another examination attempt in the following semester. The following procedure applies:
- You submit two different topic proposals for the term paper via the form by email to the department's office.
- In the email, you specify the start date of the processing period.
- If the department agrees to both topics and the date, you will receive a notification on this date with the selected topic. The processing period is six weeks.
- Once the department has approved the second examination and the topics, the examination must also be registered again on PULS.
If you have any questions, please contact the assistant of the chair.
A repeat examination or second attempt should be conducted by the instructors whose seminar you attended. If this is not possible, such as if they are no longer teaching at the University of Potsdam, please contact the instructors who are offering a course (and an exam) in the same module in the current semester. However, please note that these instructors may have no or limited capacity to conduct additional exams if their own courses are overbooked.
