    ACADEMIC CAREER AND RESEARCH AREAS

    Prof. Dr. Andrea Liese joined the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Potsdam on January 1, 2010, first as Professor of International Organizations and Policy Fields and since April 1, 2020, as Professor of International Relations. Previously, she taught and conducted research as an Assistant Professor of International Politics at the Humboldt University of Berlin (2007-2009), as a Research Associate at the Free University of Berlin (2001-2006), and at the University of Bremen, where she received her PhD in 2001. She was also a visiting fellow at the Social Science Research Center (WZB) and a John F. Kennedy Memorial Fellow at Harvard University. She graduated in political science, law, sociology and German studies at the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main. 
    Andrea Liese was, among other things, project leader and member of the Collaborative Research Center 700 "Governance in Areas of Limited Statehood" (2006-2017) and the Research Unit 1745 "International Public Administration" (2014-2021). She is currently conducting research on the authority, expertise, and neutrality of international organizations, on norm collisions in international politics, and (among other things, as part of the KFG research group "The international Rule of Law") on the rise and decline of norms in international law. 
    From 2022-2024, Andrea Liese will take over together with Prof. Dr. Thomas Sommerer the managing editorship of the Zeitschrift für Internationale Beziehungen (ZIB). She is the author of numerous articles on the role of international organizations and their bureaucracies, non-state actors, institutions, and norms in international relations. These have appeared in oulets like Global Constitutionalism, Governance, International Studies Quarterly, Review of International Studies, Review of International Organizations, and the Zeitschrift für Internationale Beziehungen.
    In addition to research and teaching, Andrea Liese is involved as a mentor and in numerous university committees and non-university (selection) commissions. Since October 1, 2021 she is also Vice Dean for Research and Academic Qualification at the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences. She is currently, among others, a member of the Research Advisory Board of the German United Nations Association (DGVN), the Advisory Board of the Development and Peace Foundation (FES), and part of the faculty of the Berlin Graduate School of Global and Transregional Studies (BGTS).
