EISA-PEC is coming to Potsdam

Lectures and discussions on current topics in international relations characterize the program of the annual “Pan European Conference“ (PEC). It is organized by the European International Studies Association (EISA) at changing locations. After Prague and Athens, Prof. Dr. Andrea Liese and Prof. Dr. Thomas Sommerer as local organizers have brought the event to Potsdam this year and thus to Germany for the first time. From September 5 to 9, more than 1000 international scientists will gather at the Griebnitzsee campus.

“Envisioning a New Normal,“ the conference theme, is a call to search for visions of a "new normal" in the face of multiple crises in international relations - from Russia's war of aggression on Ukraine to worldwide trends of autocratization and climate change.

Potsdam has a long history of developing new political visions. In the final days of World War II, the leading Allied powers, represented by Joseph Stalin, Winston Churchill, Clement Attlee, and Harry Truman, met at the “Potsdam Conference“ for the last of their three summits on the postwar order. The meeting was in some ways a historic transition from the crisis of the war years to a new era characterized by radically different ideas about international politics, economics, and society.

We look forward to welcoming the EISA-PEC in Potsdam! Prof. Dr. Andrea Liese organizes together with Dr. Matthias Krankea secton on "Institutionalising the New Normal? International Organisations in Times of Crisis". Prof. Dr. Thomas Sommerer hosts the semi-plenary "Future Pathways for Effective Multilateralism".

You can find more information about the conference on the EISA website.
