AI Principles at the University of Potsdam

Critical Engagement Instead of Exclusion
Generative AI—with all its benefits and risks—should be an integral part of teaching. While it presents challenges, its potential clearly outweighs them. Used thoughtfully, generative AI opens up new possibilities for learning, teaching, and research.

Building Future Skills
The University of Potsdam actively encourages students, instructors, and researchers to explore, understand, and critically use AI tools. This approach helps develop essential future skills while fostering a clear awareness of both the possibilities and the limitations of these technologies.

Scientific Responsibility
As a research institution, the University of Potsdam is committed to the principles of good scientific practice. Accordingly, the use of AI tools is addressed across teaching and research—for example, in questions of authorship, emerging research methods, and the ethical implications of AI-supported work.
