Study Preparation Brandenburg - Frequently asked questions

• The SVB courses prepare you for your studies in terms of language and terminology, field of study, academic methodology, and interculturally.
• The courses conclude with a university entrance examination (applicable for the universities of the state of Brandenburg).

• The high quality of preparation is ensured by the many years of experience of former employees of the preparatory college of the state of Brandenburg at the University of Potsdam (1992-2010).

• In two semesters you will be well-prepared for university studies in the state of Brandenburg.

The application to Study Preparation Brandenburg is submitted using uni-assist (exception: You already have verification that you have to attend a preparatory college - (for instance from the Zeugnisanerkennungsstelle (certificate recognition office) of the state of Brandenburg). Applicants who would like to study at one of the cooperating universities apply for the SVB via the respective university.

Before enrollment in the SVB Course, you will receive an invitation to the admission test in

• German as a Foreign Language and
• Mathematics (depending on the intended subject of study).

The admission test always takes place in mid-September.

Those SVB applicants who intend later to study a subject that is among these fields of study --

• Mathematics/Computer Sciences/Natural Sciences,
• Economics and Business Studies, or
• Engineering -- must take the mathematics admission test.

The allocation of places in the course takes place

• on the basis of the performance in the admission test,
• taking into account agreements between the cooperating universities and
• the available space capacity.

The annual intake capacity is up to 40 participants.

All SVB participants must take part in the SVB Courses.

Participants with verified German skills can be released from the German-language module.

The university entrance examination consists of three parts:

1. DSH - German Language Exam for University Admission (except where an exception has been made),
2. examinations in two foundation modules,
3. cognitive test in which you prove that can adequately handle complex study-related content.

The Study Preparation Brandenburg and the subsequent university entrance examination are free of charge.

The charge for DSH exam as part of the university entrance examination is 160 Euro.

The regularsemester fees total € 116.00 (summer semester 2024).

You need an account to use various offers of the University.

You get a Uni Potsdam email address, use the University’s wireless network, and register for the digital teaching and learning platform “moodle.”

Daily use of the email account is also necessary for course communication (for instance, if class cancellations are communicated at short notice).
