Motivation Through Feedback: Giving and Receiving Feedback That Promotes Learning

Giving feedback that facilitates learning is one of the key skills for educators, as feedback enhances students’ motivation, well-being, and their positive progression in performance. The learning journey is highlighted not only through your feedback but also via student feedback directed at you (Hattie, 2013). During this professional development session, we intend to discuss recent empirical insights into what constitutes effective feedback. Through the analysis of external teaching videos, we will work on practising learning-positive feedback. Additionally, we aim to highlight factors that may negatively affect our feedback approach and consider strategies teachers can adopt to counteract these influences constructively. It's equally crucial for us to inspire you to engage in self-reflection concerning your feedback practices, using outcomes from student surveys as a basis.
