Steffen Künn studied economics at the Free University Berlin and at the Loughborough University (UK). He received his Master degree in April 2008. Afterwards he started his PhD studies in economics and received his PhD from the University of Potsdam in November 2012 and worked as a (Senior) Research Associate at IZA in Bonn. In his thesis „Unemployment and Active Labor Market Policy: New Evidence on Start-up Subsidies, Marginal Employment and Programs for Youth Unemployed” he investigates the effectiveness of selected active labor market policy programs in Germany.
His main research interests include applied labor economics and in particular the evaluation of labor market policy. Besides the evaluation of traditional programs of active labor market policy (such as wage subsidies, training etc), he is particularly interested in the effectiveness of programs which aim at promoting self-employment among the unemployed.
Since September 2015 Steffen Künn is an Assistant Professor at the School of Business and Economics at Maastricht University.
