Maria studied IT Systems Engineering at HPI before starting her career at Netlight. As a software engineer, she works closely with the client's on-site team to deliver sustainable solutions that meet their needs. Maria has experienced the importance of gender diversity in teams and therefore wants to encourage women to pursue a career in tech.
Definitely for machine learning. I'm always excited about automatically extracting knowledge from data that you couldn't get manually. When I studied at HPI, there were no lectures or seminars on machine learning with neural networks. The topic is still so young that you can find very little learning material for it. That makes it more difficult, but also all the more exciting.
Many companies have "gender equality" written all over them. But it (also) depends on the little things. I would like to see gender equality become established in such a way that it is no longer used as a special badge.
The CodePub and PyData host talks on IT topics. The CodePub is an initiative with the goal of increasing the number of women in the IT industry by lowering the threshold for entry into software development and highlighting female role models within the IT industry. All under the motto: "competence has no gender". PyData is where users and developers of Python gather to exchange ideas. A subgroup of PyData are the PyLadies.
We have a small library at Netlight. A colleague recommended the book "Daring Greatly: How the Courage to Be Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent, and Lead" by Brene Brown. I'd like to pass along that recommendation. It makes you think about strengths and weaknesses. You can also check out Ted Talk as a summary.
Among other things, I am active on LinkedIn and MeetUp. I use LinkedIn to stay in touch with former colleagues, for example. MeetUp offers meetings and talks on an incredible variety of topics. There is something for everyone.
