Dr. Sönke H. Matthewes will be leaving the University of Potsdam. In January 2024, he will take up a new position as Assistant Professor of Applied Economics (tenure track) at Utrecht University. We wish him all the best and every success there.

The German Research Foundation (DFG) approves external funding for Shushanik Margaryan’s and Thomas Siedler’s research project „Climate policy co-benefits, air pollution, and population health“ in the amount of approximately 200,000 euros for two years.

14.10.22 | 1st BSE Postdoc & Junior Professors Workshop
Shushanik Margaryan, Thomas Sielder (University of Potsdam & BSE) and Luca Stella (FU Berlin & BSE) organized the first ever postdoc and junior professor workshop across institutions of the BSE. It took place on October 13 & 14 at the University of Potsdam. Around 20 BSE members presented their research on topics in applied microeconomics.

The paper "Health effects of a ban on late-night alcohol sales" by Matthias Bäuml, Jan Marcus, and Thomas Siedler was accepted at the journal Health Economics.

23.08.22 | Shushanik Margaryan is heading to participate in the 7th Lindau Meeting on Economic Sciences on 23-27 August
The meeting this year includes 19 Nobel Laureates and more than 300 young economists from 64 countries.

Sönke Hendrik Matthewes successfully defended his dissertation on “Consequences of Institutional Differentiation in Secondary School Systems: Three Empirical Essays in the Economics of Education” at Free University Berlin.

Shushanik Margaryan was awarded the HCHE Young Researcher Award for her paper "Low emission zones and population health" published in the Journal of Health Economics.
