Special focus is given to understanding the impact of plural perspectives to policies and rights of minorities, indigenous peoples and people on the move.

What impact do international human rights principles, regulations and norms have on the development and further implementation of policies? How can such instruments become truly emancipatory? Complex problems such as rising vulnerability, growing inequalities, intolerance and environmental injustice demand different approaches, perspectives and solutions. This course discusses the idea of human rights as an emancipatory discourse and seeks to assess how pluriversal perspectives to rights and policies may impact contemporary implementation gaps.

The purpose of this course is to gain a more comprehensive understanding of how actors such as social movements, civil society, NGOs, transnational corporations, and international organizations may impact HR policies' implementation. Particular emphasis is placed on issues related to diversity, such as minority rights, gender equality, racial discrimination and migration rights (refugees, stateless persons, IDPs, migrant workers).

During the course, emphasis is placed on processes of implementation of human rights norms. We discuss the conditions conducive to such implementation, and the roles of national and international actors. We discuss how social movements and community-led initiatives may contribute to social justice. Indigenous rights, feminist, intersectional, and pluriversal approaches are current issues included in these discussions.

Departing from students own perspectives and thesis topics, the course follows a problem-based methodology that encourages students to engage with various theoretical approaches while also providing opportunities for students to reflect on their thesis within the course’s main debates.

How have the movements of people, plants, goods and ideas shaped the world we live in today? This asynchronous course in global history invites students to explore the past beyond national borders and to discover history as a web of connections, exchanges and inequalities stretching across continents and centuries.

Through videos, readings, digital resources and source-based activities, students will examine how local places and global processes are deeply intertwined. The course also encourages students to connect global history to the world around them, asking how their own surroundings have been shaped by wider historical processes and how seemingly local histories are often part of much larger global stories.

This course is for students who want to think critically and gain new perspectives on how the modern world was made. Global history offers tools not only for understanding the past, but also for making sense of our interconnected present.

This is an asynchronous consisting of three modules:

(1) concepts and approaches in global history
(2) networks/exchange/empires and how to trace the “biography” of objects/ideas
(3) linking personal background and experience to global and historical contexts

After completing the course, the student will be able to understand the evolutionary nature of the functioning of the human body, psychology and pathology. They will be able to look at diseases from a different point of view and in the broad context of the evolution of our species in relation to other organisms and our adaptations during evolution.

The aim of the course is to show the broader context of digital competences. We start from DigComp, which defines five areas of competence within which each citizen should develop. It tries to show how individual competences influence and change the information society and what impact their development or absence can have. At the same time, they also seek to deepen them in practice.

At the end of the course participants will:

• Define and critically reflect digital competences
• Work alone, even in a team with a European Reference Framework
• Understand the relationship of the information society and digital competences
• Engage in the development of digital competencies in specific teams
• Use appropriate tools for each competence area
• Safely use online communication tools to reflect data leaks and misuse issues
• Set your personal balance between work and study, between technology and nature. Students will be able to understand basic concepts of copyright.
• Students will have the basic ability to work with information and understand why information is related to power.

In this lecture, students will become familiar with the evolutionary development of the human diet, changes in the structure and function of the gastrointestinal tract, and other physiological adaptations closely associated with the evolution of nutrition.

Transnational criminal cooperation in the EU - European challenges and solutions is an introductory course that provides interdisciplinary insight into transnational crime in the European Union. The course first highlights various problems arising from the EU's Area of Freedom, Security and Justice which largely increased transnational organised crime in EU member states. It specifically focuses on the definition of organised crime, trafficking in human beings and the smuggling of migrants and the challenges the EU faces in terms of these offenses. Additionally, the course offers a legal and practical overview of the EU measures against those offenses including cooperation systems based on the principle of mutual recognition and criminal law harmonisation. Finally, it also sheds light on fundamental rights concerns in the EU's system of criminal cooperation.

The course introduces well-being as a multidimensional concept encompassing physical, mental, emotional, and social aspects, and examines its role in learning, work performance, and organizational functioning. Participants explore individual responsibility for well-being, including lifestyle habits, self-regulation, stress management, and effective communication.

In parallel, the course presents the foundations of organizational agility, such as transparency, flexibility, collaboration, and adaptive communication within academic institutions. Through case-based examples and reflective tasks, participants analyze how individual behaviors and shared values influence organizational well-being, engagement, and reputation.

Delivered asynchronously, the course opens with a brief “zeroing” lecture that refreshes the essentials of public international law - actors, sources and dispute settlement - so that students from different backgrounds can start on common ground. It then unfolds in two parts. The first develops a solid foundation in international environmental law through a set of lectures that trace its historical evolution, unpack core principles, map global environmental governance and law-making processes, and examine judicial and compliance mechanisms. Building on that basis, the second part turns to selected contemporary issues. Students will explore environmental sovereignty in an interdependent world; the emerging right to a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment; sustainable development and the SDGs; the protection of future generations; the interaction between trade and the environment through sustainable development chapters in EU free trade agreements; and the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism. Assessment is by a short multiple-choice quiz (10 questions). The course is passed with at least 6 correct answers. The Course Learning Outcomes are as follows:

• Acquire knowledge about the historical evolution and foundational principles of International Environmental Law, including the development of global environmental governance structures and lawmaking processes.
• Demonstrate understanding of the key mechanisms for judicial review, compliance, and enforcement in the context of international environmental obligations.
• Develop the ability to analyze complex legal and institutional frameworks related to environmental sovereignty, the right to a healthy environment, and sustainable development.

The programme combines critical reflection and research-based insights, offering participants the opportunity to engage with current debates on generative AI, power asymmetries, bias, epistemic authority, academic integrity, and the transformation of educational practices. The public space of metropolises as well as medium and small-sized towns is profoundly marked by the historic and contemporary traces of linguistic practices, such as graffiti, informal messages, public and commercial signs. These signs are produced by different actors and also carry out different functions. Linguistic Landscape (LL) research investigates the distribution of monolingual and multilingual signs in the public sphere, their linguistic and semiotic features, as well as their functions and evolution over time. In doing so, it aims to provide insights into the status of historic and migration-related minority languages in a specific territory.

Das Angebot im EDUC Kurskatalog ist sehr vielfältig und umfasst Kurse aus (fast) allen Fachbereichen sowie auf verschiedenen Studienniveaus. Das Kursangebot wird stückweise erweitert, es lohnt sich also, regelmäßig vorbeizuschauen.

Grundsätzlich stehen die Kurse allen Studierenden innerhalb der EDUC Allianz offen, so lange sie an einer der Allianzuniversitäten eingeschrieben sind. Es gibt bei einzelnen Kursen mit bestimmten Teilnahmevoraussetzungen, die in der jeweiligen Kursbeschreibung vermerkt sind.

Dies hängt grundsätzlich von der eigenen Studienordnung an der Universität Potsdam ab und muss mit dem Prüfungsausschuss des eigenen Studienfaches geklärt werden.

Grundsätzlich läuft der Anerkennungsprozess analog zu jenem regulärer Auslandssemester entsprechend des Leitfadens zur Anerkennung bzw. Fakultäts- oder Instituts-interner Regelungen ab.

Es ist empfehlenswert, vor Beginn des Kurses ein Learning Agreement abzuschließen, um die Anerkennung vorab mit dem hiesigen Prüfungsausschuss zu klären. Eine EDUC-Vorlage für ein Learning Agreement gibt es bisher nicht, weshalb die auf der folgenden Seite verlinkte allgemeine Vorlage des International Office genutzt werden kann.

Die den Kurs anbietende Hochschule erstellt nach erfolgreichem Abschluss zudem ein EDUC Zertifikat oder Transcript of Records, das ggf. die ECTS ausweist und die Leistung bestätigt. Ob die anbietende Hochschule dies ausstellt und in welchem Umfang, kann der Kursbeschreibung im EDUC Kurskatalog entnommen werden und ggf. mit der anbietenden Hochschule abgeklärt werden.

Tipp: Sollten die gewählten Kurse aus unterschiedlichen Fachrichtungen stammen, ist es empfehlenswert, die Kurse in separaten Learning Agreements zu listen, da jeweils nur ein Prüfungsausschuss unterzeichnen kann.
