The book “The Future of Local Government: Lessons from Research and Practice in 31 Countries” as part of the COST Action “Local Public Sector Reforms: an International Comparison (LocRef)” by Christian Schwab, Geert Bouckaert and Sabine Kuhlmann was now published for the French-speaking area, available in a new translation. The book can be accessed here.
Anders Lidström, Professor at the Department of Political Science at Umeå University (Sweden) recently published a report on Prospects for a European Municipal Data Archive (EMDA).
The report summarizes a review of the availability of comparable municipal level data on local politics and administration in 29 European countries (the EU member countries excluding Bulgaria, Cyprus, Luxemburg and Malta but including Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, Turkey and also Israel).
From June 12 to June 17, the fifth Joint PhD Training School will take place in Florence under the title “The Renaissance of Local Government – European Communities in Transition”. It is jointly funded by the University of Florence (Research Center “Political and Social Sciences and the Jean Monnet Center of Excellence”), the COST action “Local Public Sector Reforms” (LocRef), the municipality of Florence, the Tuscany unit of the Italian National Municipal Association ANCITOSCANA) and the ECPR / LOGOPOL and EURA Summer School Cooperation. The call for papers for this years’ EGPA PSG IV is out now. You can find it [here]. The papers should adress the following theme: Governance in between – The Meso-Level in Transition.
The call for this years’ EGPA PSG V is out now and can be found [here]. The session topics are labelled “Between cost cutting and better services for the citizens: organizational reforms and cutback management at the local level of government.” The study group will be conducted in close cooperate with the COST Action ‘LocRef’.
The latest issue (3/2015) of the Croatian and Comparative Public Administration contains articles drafted in the context of the work of Working Group I of the COST Action ‘LocRef’.
The main topic is on local service provision. Besides that it includes Christian Schwab’s report on the COST-conference „European Local Government at a Glance“ that took place last year in Dubrovnik.
The journal is edited by Ivan Koprić, Vedran Đulabić, and Romea Manojlović which are also members of WG I.
For the fourth period of activity the COST action ‘LocRef’ is inviting proposals for STSMs. The scientific exchange visits at institutions or research centers that are a member of the Action are intended for early stage researchers and supported by grants.
