Research

Research interests at our department cover the width and breadth of issues in English Language Education, e.g. teaching literature, inter- and transcultural learning, education for sustainable development, early Foreign Language Acquisition, communicative interaction in the primary English language classroom, media-supported and data-driven language learning, evidence-based research and the the professional development of teachers.

Current research projects:

Leistung macht Schule (LemaS)

As part of the LemaS Transfer team for English at the University of Potsdam, Prof. Dr. Britta Freitag-Hild and Dr. Claudia Müller support multipliers across Germany in their efforts to disseminate the concept of the “complex competency task” (based on Wolfgang Hallet) at transfer schools.

Language Teacher Identity

Language Teacher Identity

This dissertation project is interested in exploring what identity-oriented language teacher education can look like in the local context and better understand pre-service teachers’ sense-making, emotions, and agency as they engage in identity-oriented teacher learning activities.

Virtual Exchanges

Virtual Exchanges in ELE

Our DBR-project aims to investigate the implementation of virtual exchange projects in the school context. Together with teachers, we develop and implement project ideas, investigate the impact on the development of subject-specific, linguistic, digital and cultural competences, and, on this basis, develop tried-and-tested materials for English lessons.
