Content

As part of the program, students will attend both language and subject courses:

1. German language and phonetics
2. Seminar (1 topic to choose*: Modern German history at an accelerated pace, The division of Germany or Jewish Life in Germany in the past and present)
3. Projects (1 topic to choose*: focus on theatre, photography or literature)

Course Description Projects & Seminars

During the German language course, students will expand their language abilities. The phonetics workshop aims at improving students‘ pronunciation and accentuation.

Seminars and projects allow students to focus on a subject matter. Students will choose one seminar and one project.

Virtual field trips are an additional feature of selected seminar and project.

At the end of the program, students will share the results of their projects with their fellows.  

All courses are held in German language.

Cultural & Supporting Program:

In addition to classroom courses, ISAS offers a varied social program:

•     Welcome evening at a student pub
•     City tour Potsdam
•     City tour Berlin
•     Excursion to the Sachsenhausen Memorial and Museum
•     Excursion to the Brandenburg region (destination to be announced)

On the e-learning platform Moodle we provide additional suggestions for cultural and leisure activities, also virtually (e.g. 360⁰-museum tours).

Learning Objectives

Students

• use their speaking skills in communicative situations and improve their knowledge of the german language
• extend their vocabulary in different main topics and get technical language competence
• develop awareness for cultural perspectives, products and practices and gain intercultural experiences
• critically reflect on topics of German history and memory culture.

Please note that the program fee does not include accommodation or insurance costs. Participants look for accommodation individually during the course and bear the costs themselves.

However, at the end of February'24, we may be able to offer room options in the student dormitories, for the period from August 6 to August 30 (first come, first served). We will inform you accordingly.

Requirements

The course is open to all interested parties who come to Potsdam independently of an exchange program.

The Required German Language Level is at least B2.

The program fee is € 750.00 (including placement test, teaching material, city tours and excursions, welcome evening and certificate of completion). Only after payment of the course fee, we can finally confirm your registration.
