Reception for Student and Professional Athletes
On February 25, 2025, the Sports Reception took place for the ninth time. On behalf of Potsdam’s universities, Potsdam University Sports organized a festive event in the Audimax to honor our successful athletes. Entertaining performances and a lively finale rounded out the program. A new feature this year was the collaboration with the Potsdam University of Applied Sciences and the Potsdam University of Applied Sciences for Sports and Management.
With invited guests from the worlds of politics, sports, and higher education, we took this opportunity to recognize the athletic achievements of the students studying at Potsdam’s universities. This includes not only the approximately 100 active athletes who are sent by the university sports program to national and international student championships each year, but also the more than 40 elite athletes currently enrolled.
In addition to honoring athletic achievements from the 2024 competition season, the event focused on discussions and the topic of “dual careers” for elite athletes. With the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris and this year’s Rhine-Ruhr FISU World University Games—which are being held in Germany for the first time since 1989 and are the largest multisport event after the Olympic Games—the challenging task of balancing elite sports and academic studies was once again a central topic. Digital learning continues to provide significant support to athletes, enabling them to maintain their academic performance despite competitions and training camps.
Thanks to the cooperation agreement between the University of Potsdam, the General German University Sports Association, the Potsdam Student Services, and the Potsdam Olympic Training Center, elite athletes are accompanied and supported every step of the way. Young, promising talents receive special encouragement. The Sports Chapter of the University Society (Universitätsgesellschaft e.V.) presented the Young Talent Award for the fourth time at the 2025 Sports Reception.
