May 2026: Final NamTip factsheets published
In May 2026, the NamTip project published its final two factsheets, completing the full series of 17 outputs. These last publications focus on the crucial topic of rangeland restoration and offer both local perspectives and comparative insights into restoration practices.
Factsheet #16 explores restoration techniques known and applied by communities in the Waterberg region of Namibia, highlighting commonly used practices as well as their main limitations in practice. Building on this, Factsheet #17 provides a more in-depth analysis of key restoration techniques, including resting, reseeding, bush thinning (without resting), and bush thinning combined with resting. The findings indicate that the combination of bush thinning and resting is by far the most effective strategy, underscoring the importance of long-term management and patience in restoring degraded rangelands.
These two new factsheets, along with the 15 previously published, are available here.
With these final publications, the NamTip factsheet series is now complete. To enhance accessibility and impact, all 17 factsheets will be translated into Otjiherero and distributed to both freehold and communal farmers in the Waterberg region and beyond. In addition, a comprehensive booklet is currently being developed, summarizing key project findings alongside practical recommendations derived from the factsheets, with a strong focus on applicability for practitioners. A policy brief targeting decision-makers is also in preparation. Together, these outputs mark an important step in ensuring that the knowledge generated by NamTip is effectively disseminated across different stakeholder groups.
