Each year in August, the University of Potsdam welcomes international students with advanced German language skills to its International Summer Academy „Sans Souci“ (ISAS). Within four weeks, students immerse themselves in German language, history and culture.
ISAS offers a unique blend of German language and applied phonetics, cultural and historical seminars and creative projects. All courses are held in German.
Students obtain 6 ECTS upon successful completion of the program.
As part of the program, students will attend both language and subject courses:
During the German language course, students will expand their language abilities. The phonetics workshop aims at improving students‘ pronunciation and accentuation.
In the seminars and projects courses, students deal with a cultural-historical and an artistic focus. Students each choose one seminar and one project. The seminar and project courses are accompanied by selected excursions (hybrid formats).
At the end of the program, students present the results from their project and seminar courses with their fellows on a „Ergebnismarkt“.
All courses are held in German language.
German Language
Students will expand their German language skills and prepare for the cultural and historical topics dealt with during seminars and projects.
Learning objectives:
Phonetics
The phonetics workshop will enable students to practice their pronunciation, accentuation and intonation through playful exercises.
Seminar
Students choose one seminar dealing with a focus topic.
The creation of a learning journal or a portfolio (or similar) serves to reflect on what has been learnt. At the end of the program the results will be shared and can be discussed with their fellows.
Project
Students choose one project to engage creatively with a focus topic as a group. At the end of the program, students will present their group work to their fellows.
„Ergebnismarkt“ (Closing Session)
The „results market“ represents the end of the program. Here, participants can show what they have developed and learnt in their projects and seminars. The focus is on the presentations from the project courses. To accompany this, an exhibition area for displaying the results from the seminars (journals) is put in place, which is intended to stimulate discussions and joint reflection among all actors.
Students
In addition to learning activities in the classroom, ISAS offers a varied supporting program:
On the Moodle e-learning platform, we provide additional suggestions for virtual cultural offers (e.g. 360-degree museum tours).
The program fee is € 720.00 (including placement test, teaching material, city tours and excursions, welcome evening and certificate of completion).
Please note that the program fee does not include accommodation or insurance costs. Participants look for accommodation individually during the course and bear the costs themselves. However, there is a limited number of room contingents for the student dormitory.
The required and recommended language level is at least B2.
The course is open to all interested parties who come to Potsdam independently of an exchange program. You can register here.
Please also note our conditions of participation.
