Principles of Conduct for Academic Sports in Potsdam
- I respect the right to physical integrity and do not engage in any form of violence, whether physical, psychological or sexual. If a degree of physicality is inherent in the sport I am coaching, I enforce the sport-specific rules of fair play and ensure that everyone treats each other with respect.
- I am aware that my behaviour may have a different effect on my counterpart than intended. Therefore, I respect individual feelings of closeness and distance, privacy and personal boundaries. I adapt my behaviour accordingly and act empathetically and self-critically, as well as openly and communicatively.
- I actively take a stand against verbal or non-verbal violence, discrimination, racism, sexism and inhuman behaviour (this includes, for example, sexualised suggestive remarks, derogatory or offensive comments, and inappropriate and unwanted physical contact).
- I support the non-discriminatory participation of all people regardless of gender, age, sexual orientation and identity, religion and origin.
- I cultivate an open and appreciative approach to others in the context of my university sports activities and/or participation. I exemplify respectful behaviour and consideration towards other people and nature within the active sports environment.
- I handle the personal data of children, young people and adults with sensitivity, i.e. before passing on any information, I check the extent to which I am bound by confidentiality and, if necessary, obtain the consent of the person concerned.
- I support a comprehensive and open-ended investigation into assaults or discriminatory behaviour and listen to all parties involved without bias.
- In cases of discrimination, threats, insults and conflicts, I seek professional support and assistance and am aware of the possibility of contacting the appropriate persons in case of uncertainties, questions and/or incidents. The protection of the person(s) concerned is paramount and action should be taken in accordance with their wishes as far as possible.
