Let's Visit Museum Collections. Chapter 2

Referentinnen: Sara Akhlaq (Urban Complexity Lab, Fachhochschule Potsdam), Sarah Kreiseler (Leuphana Universität Lüneburg)

After our first workshop on exploring online cultural collections, we present the second chapter of Let's Visit Museum Collections. The main objective of this participatory event is to jointly visit online museum collections, experience digitized cultural collections with other participants, engage in conversations about appreciating art and culture, and explore gaps in their representation. We focus on  giving deeper insights into data biases and the influences graphical user interfaces (GUI) have on the public cultural data. Through a digital workshop format, participants are invited to have a closer look at some examples of online museums collections and detect cultural data biases that have been inherited by the user interfaces. The workshop will be followed by a discussion of the underlying data and critical examination of its digital representation. This event aims to highlight the potential that online cultural collections have in reaching a wider audience while at the same time drawing attention to ethical pitfalls that it could be susceptible to. We invite you to join us for collectively engaging with online cultural collections.
