On September 19 and 20, 2025, the 9th Annual Conference of the European Legal English Teachers' Association (EULETA) took place at the Université Catholique de Lille. Over thirty teachers of legal English from all over Europe took part. The conference program included numerous presentations on topics as diverse as social responsibility in legal English, the ethical integration of AI in academic English, and the use of gender-neutral English in legal documents.

Joanna Thompson and Tom Heaven teach the UNIcert® courses “English for Law” at Zessko and attended the conference. Ms. Thompson gave a presentation on her work with digital storytelling in tertiary English teaching and showed two films by students at the University of Potsdam that were released for further use. Mr. Heaven reported on his work in the classroom, where he sensitizes students to the topic of neurodiversity in the context of lawyer-client conversations. Both teachers had the opportunity to participate in lively discussions about their work.

During a tour of the Université Catholique de Lille—the oldest private university in Europe—the university's impressive efforts toward carbon neutrality were highlighted. The Rizzom building (see photo), which houses classrooms and study zones, features a smart grid/microgrid/energy self-consumption system. The building is part of the University’s transformative project “Live TREE” (Energy & Social Transition).
