Study Commissions

The Study Commission is the basic organization for all teaching and learning processes in the degree program. It brings together expertise in the field of quality development in teaching and learning. The commission is responsible for advising the Faculty Council and making well-founded recommendations. The Study Commission provides important impulses for quality development in teaching and learning: The commission members discuss current problems, develop concrete suggestions for improvement, develop new degree programs or revise existing ones, and resolve any conflicts (clearinghouse). The Study Commission is also responsible for the assessment of evaluation results (e.g. course critique, module and program evaluations) and the derivation of measures. Three tudy commissions have been established at the WiSo Faculty:

  • Interdisciplinary Study Commission
  • Study Commission for Teaching-Related Degree Programs
  • Study Commission for Continuing Education Master’s Degree Programs

Interdisciplinary Study Commission

The Interdisciplinary Study Commission was established at the WiSo Faculty at the beginning of 2011. The Study Commission is the successor of the Faculty LSK established in 2009.

Composition

The Study Commission is made up of equal numbers of students and teachers. The committee has a total of 16 members elected by the Faculty Council (4 professors, 4 research assistants and 8 students). Voting in the Faculty Council takes place separately according to status groups. The Study Commission is chaired by the Dean of Studies.

Subject-specific working groups

Since smaller groups whose members have expert knowledge and can meet regularly are often better suited for larger projects and plans, temporary working groups are set up for specific tasks and topics. The Study Commission is informed at regular intervals by the teams about their work and the interim results achieved. Final recommendations to the Faculty Council are decided by the Study Commission.

Study Commission for Teaching-Related Degree Programs

The Study Commission for Teaching-Related Degree Programs offered at the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences comprises six members. The commission is convened whenever teaching-related topics are to be discussed. The Study Commission for Teaching-Related Degree Programs meets on the same days as the Interdisciplinary Study Commission.

Study Commission for Continuing Education Master’s Degree Programs

In addition to the existing Interdisciplinary Study Commission and the Study Commission for Teaching-Related Degree Programs, a study commission specifically for continuing education degree programs was established in spring 2014. The responsibilities of this committee are similar to those of the Interdisciplinary Study Commission, but are focused on master’s degree programs such as the Master of Public Management (MPM), Master of Business Administration (MBA), and Master of European Governance and Administration (MEGA).

The Study Commission for Continuing Education Master’s Degree Programs also consists of equal numbers of students and faculty, but meets on an ad hoc basis without fixed dates.
