The workshop aims to provide a forum for empirical research in health economics, focusing in particular on risky health behaviors such as smoking, drinking alcohol, poor diet and a lack of physical activitiy (resulting in obesity), drug abuse, and unprotected sex. Empirical analyses of factors affecting risky health behaviors and of the consequences of those behaviors are encouraged for submission.

Topic: Risky Health Behaviors
Risky health behaviors - such as smoking, the use of alcohol and other drugs, unhealthy diets and low levels of physical activity - are among the leading preventable causes of death. Organised by Jan Marcus and Thomas Siedler from the Hamburg Center for Health Economics (HCHE), international health economists came together on 27 and 28 October 2017 to discuss empirical findings on the causes and effects of risky health behaviours. The renowned US-American health economists John Cawley (Cornell University) and Christopher Carpenter (Vanderbilt University) were our guests as keynote speakers.
