Background

The years of childhood and adolescence are crucial for the development of health and general well-being in the following adult life. Only with an optimal diet, people are in the position to reach their full potential.
In recent years an increasing number of countries must shoulder a "Double Burden of Malnutrition". This term describes the persistence of undernutrition, especially among children, along with a rapid rise of overnutrition and related diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and coronary heart disease. Alarmingly, both forms of malnutrition could even be seen in the individuals, as one child could be undersupplied with vitamins and minerals while at the same time being overweight due to a diet high in carbohydrates.

This Summer School aims at finding new approaches to reduce the above mentioned problems. For this the Summer School “Child and Adolescent Nutrition” promotes an interdisciplinary exchange between the participants in the field of nutrition, medicine and public health.
