Project Goals

Our aim is to gain a deeper understanding of the socio-emotional relationships between teachers and students in schools. To this end, we explicitly consider the perspectives of both interaction partners and examine influencing factors, mediating processes, outcomes, and reciprocal changes over time.

In addition to developing practical implications for improving teacher–student relationships (e.g., in teacher education), the project seeks to address existing research gaps in empirical educational research.

We are interested in the following questions:

• Which individual and social characteristics of teachers and students are relevant for their relationships in school?
• To what extent do teachers’ and students’ perceptions of their relationship differ?
• Which psychological processes play a role in how the interaction partners perceive their relationship?
• Which academic and socio-emotional outcomes result from teachers’ and students’ relational behaviors?
