Martina Münch, Brandenburg’s Minister of Science, Research and Culture, is traveling to Argentina from September 14 to 18 together with University President Prof. Oliver Günther, Ph.D., Vice President for International Affairs, Alumni and Fundraising Prof. Dr. Florian J. Schweigert, and staff from the University of Potsdam. The purpose of the trip is to expand international cooperation between the University of Potsdam and the state of Brandenburg with Argentinean universities, research institutions, museums and schools.
The delegation is meeting with representatives from the Universidad Nacional de San Martín (UNSAM) and the Universidad de Buenos Aires (UBA), among others, to talk about the potential for scholarly cooperation as well as opportunities for collaboration between the University of Potsdam and these two universities. “Argentina has been a priority region for our international activities for years. We maintain a wide range of productive cooperative relationships with Argentinean universities and research institutions, for example in the geosciences, a field in which Potsdam excels. I am certain that, thanks to the presence of Minister Münch, our journey will make a substantial contribution to deepening these relationships and extending them to other fields,” said University President Oliver Günther, Ph.D.
There will be talks with the German Hospital in Buenos Aires about possible cooperation in the form of internships for students and young scholars from Brandenburg’s upcoming Health Campus. A meeting is also scheduled with representatives from the CONICET National Research Council and the Argentinean Ministry of Science, and one of the items on the agenda is an extension of support for the “StRATEGy” German Research Society (DFG) PhD research group in the geosciences. Specific opportunities for cooperation will also be discussed at a meeting with the administrators and pupils of the German-language Pestalozzi School in Buenos Aires. These opportunities could take the form, for example, of the University of Potsdam offering trial studies for Argentinean high school graduates. At a visit to the Jewish Museum in Buenos Aires, the focus was on the “Digital Objects of Exile” project at the Moses Mendelssohn Center at the University of Potsdam, which collects, presents, evaluates and digitalizes objects related to German-Jewish immigration in Central and South America.
