Dr. Veronika Zablotsky

Profile: 

Dr. Veronika Zablotsky is a political scientist specializing in political theory and the history of political ideas, critical migration studies, transnational social movements, qualitative empirical research methods, and transformative research ethics. She is currently John F. Kennedy Memorial Fellow at the Minda de Gunzburg Center for European Studies at Harvard University where she is developing her habilitation “Democratic Practices of Repair: Migrant Justice and the Politics of Sanctuary,” a book project on the normative dimensions and impact of church asylum (sanctuary) as a transnational democratic practice connecting Germany and the Americas since the 1980s. Based on extensive archival research and qualitative interviews with sanctuary practitioners, as part of this project, she also worked with Asyl in der Kirche Berlin-Brandenburg e.V. to build the digital oral history archive “40 Years of Asylum in the Church” at Freie Universität Berlin: https://www.aik.oral-history.digital. 
 

She was Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow at the UCLA Luskin Institute on Inequality and Democracy at the University of California, Los Angeles, and was appointed as a postdoctoral researcher with “Transforming Solidarities: Praktiken und Infrastrukturen in der Migrationsgesellschaft,” an interdisciplinary research project funded by the Berlin University Alliance at Freie Universität Berlin. In addition, she served as Interim W2-Chair in Political Science with a focus on Gender Studies at Justus-Liebig-Universität Giessen as well as Interim W2-Chair in Politics in the Department of Cultural Studies at the University of Koblenz. She earned her Ph.D. from the University of California at Santa Cruz in the Department of Feminist Studies with Designated Emphases in History of Consciousness, Politics, and Critical Race & Ethnic Studies.
