Multilingualism in Torino

Raffaella Ritucci's PhD thesis focuses on language policies in the scholastic system in Torino with particular attention on bi- and multi-lingual students.

147 spoken interviews with bi- and multi-lingual children and their parents form the basis of the empirical analysis. The interviews were conducted in various schools in Torino, with 121 students from the fifth year of elementare (primary school) up to the third year of media (secondary school). The students who belonged to the categories G2, G1.5, G1.75, and G1.25 were chosen to be interviewed (G=generation).

The parents of the students involved in the study originally come from over 32 different countries such as: Germany, France, Romania, Peru, Brazil, Egypt, Morocco, Nigeria, Pakistan, Vietnam, Philippines.

La tesi di dottorato di Raffaella Ritucci esamina le politiche linguistiche nel sistema scolastico di Torino con particolare attenzione agli studenti bi- e multilingui.

La sua ricerca empirica si basa su 147 interviste audio con bambini bi- e multilingui e i loro genitori. La raccolta dati ha avuto luogo a Torino in differenti scuole medie ed elementari. I 121 bambini intervistati sono nella fascia di frequenza scolastica dalla 5 elementare alla 3 media e sono stati selezionati in base alla loro appartenenza alle categories G2, G1,5, G1,75, G1,25 (G= generazione).

I genitori degli studenti coinvolti nello studio provengono da 32 paesi diversi tra cui: Germania, Francia, Romania, Perù, Brasile, Egitto, Marocco, Nigeria, Pakistan, Vietnam, Filippine.
