Open Access – The University of Potsdam Attains Third Place Worldwide for Using Knowledge Unlatched

The University of Potsdam is among the top three users of Knowledge Unlatched worldwide. Content from the Open Access initiative is only accessed more frequently at the Free University of Berlin and the Ruhr University in Bochum. “Our ranking is a clear signal that the Open Access strategy at the University of Potsdam’s library is proving itself,” says Dr. Andreas Kennecke from the library. “We are proud of our accomplishment and it inspires us to continue down this path.”

Knowledge Unlatched is an initiative through which libraries can participate in the financing of Open Access books, a kind of crowdfunding for scholarly literature. Publishing houses provide English-language titles from the humanities and social sciences that are then released for a fixed payment for global use under a Creative Commons license. These books are then placed in the Open Access platforms JSTOR and OAPEN for everyone who is interested.
