Startup Academy for scientists from non-university research institutes: WFBB: INNOVATION PATHWAY FOR STARTUP CREATION
In this four-hour webinar, you will get an overview of different activities related to innovation and commercialisation from science as a potential alternative career path. Many researchers are confronted at some point in their careers with choosing between remaining in academia, or going out of science to work for different potential stakeholders, including the creation of a potential start-up company. This course will help you identifying if the knowledge accumulated during your scientific work (e.g. PhD work) and potential ideas and technologies could be an avenue for your future work. The workshop includes the following topics: identifying a problem / challenge in a practical domain to which the scientific background could provide a solution (problem-solution-fit), easy to follow methodology to identify relevant applications, group work between participants to try out different concepts.
It is recommended to follow-up this session with the Startup Academy Workshop “From Research to Market”, both courses together provide an easy to follow framework for PhD candidates, to estimate the potential value of their own technology / knowledge developed during scientific career, and gives access to decision support mechanisms to choose if innovation could be a valid career path.
