Practitioner Research in (Music) Education

Practitioner Research in (Music) Education

The aim is the conception and implementation of regular Joint Master’s Seminars – if possible, in the form of rotating summer schools – on the research methodology Practitioner Research, PR for short, in music teacher training. Practitioner Research is an umbrella term for developing approaches such as action research, subject-didactical development research, or design-based research in schools or in other educational settings.

The Department of Music Education and Didactics for Secondary Education is in charge of the project. The institutional partners are the LUCA School of Arts in Leuven (Belgium), the Koninklijk Concervatorium The Hague, the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, and the School of Education at the University of Bristol (England). At the above-mentioned locations, expertise on Practitioner Research or other related forms of research already exists in various forms. There are plans for teaching staff as well as students to exchange information on their ongoing PR projects, cross-institutional joint supervision of final theses, as well as workshops – also with additional external experts. The project could be expanded to include other school subjects. The 2022 Summer School at the University of Potsdam will be a major milestone to intensify and clarify the cooperation.
