New project phase ‘Strong Roots, Strong Women’ launched in Hue City.
On 15 May 2025, the next phase of the Strong Roots, Strong Women project was officially launched in Hue City.
The kick-off workshop was held together with our project partners from the Centre for Social Research and Development (CSRD) and the Munich Re Foundation, as well as representatives of the EU Delegation in Vietnam and numerous local stakeholders.
The province of Thua Thien Hue in central Vietnam is already facing considerable climate-related risks, which will increase further as a result of climate change. Storms, heavy rainfall and flooding are significantly affecting the traditional livelihoods of the rural population. The project aims to strengthen the role of women in climate adaptation and disaster risk reduction through ecosystem-based adaptation measures. An important part of the project activities
is the further development of a mangrove tree nursery. This initiative contributes to stabilising the income of local women while improving the ecological condition of the lagoon. Over the next four years, up to 60,000 seedlings are to be grown. Mangroves play a crucial role in reducing coastal erosion and the effects of flooding. The new project phase is funded and supported by the EU Delegation in Vietnam.
