The Joint Lab “Wireless and Embedded System Design” at the Institute of Computer Science of University of Potsdam brings together the scientific and practical competencies of the Leibniz-Institute IHP in Frankfurt (Oder), the Fraunhofer-Institute HHI in Berlin and the University of Potsdam's Computer Science. The Joint Lab aims to foster innovation through cutting-edge research and development in microelectronics and computational sciences.

Job Description:

We are looking for students from University of Potsdam. The selected intern will be tasked with modeling Spiking Neural Networks (SNNs) using Python, with an aim to achieve over 85% accuracy on the N-MNIST dataset.


  • Develop Spiking Neural Network (SNN) models based on the understanding of relevant biophysical mechanisms.
  • Improving the performance of SNN by architecture and parameter optimization, targeting an accuracy of over 85% on the N-MNIST dataset.
  • Paper reviews and presentations.


  • Currently registered at University of Potsdam as a student, not have to be from Institute of Computer Science or Faculty of Science.
  • Strong Python programming skills.
  • Basics of Neural Networks, particularly Spiking Neural Networks (SNNs).
  • Basics of the visual pathway from eye to brain is a plus.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Good communication skills in English, both written and verbal.

Duration and Compensation:

The start date and the duration of the internship are negotiable. This opportunity is fully funded by the BB-KI Chips project.
