Note from the Organizers
Thanks to all participants for an inspiring and interesting "2nd Potsdam PhD Workshop in Empirical Economics". A special thanks to the lecturers Arno Riedl, Sascha O. Becker and Daniel S. Hamermesh for sharing their expertise and to the external discussants Frank Fossen, Peter Haan and Thomas Siedler for their helpful comments. We are looking forward to the next event in 2014. About the Workshop
We are pleased to announce the 2nd Potsdam PhD Workshop in Empirical Economics. The aim of the workshop is to give talented young researchers the opportunity to present and discuss their research and to study new developments in Empirical Economics.
Lecturers
The first lecture will be given by Arno Riedl on “Experimental Economics”. Riedl is Professor of Public Economics at Maastricht University. In his research he uses tools and methods of behavioural and experimental economics to investigate decision-making in a variety of social and economic situations. He has published in top journals in economics, biology, neuroscience and political science.
Sascha O. Becker will talk about “The Role of Education in Economic History”. He is Professor of Economics at the University of Warwick and Deputy Director of the Centre for Competitive Advantage in the Global Economy (CAGE). His research interests are in Education and Labour Economics, Public Economics and Economic History. His papers have appeared in international journals, including the Quarterly Journal of Economics and the American Economic Review.
The final lecture will be given by Daniel S. Hamermesh on “Research Advice for PhD Students”. Hamermesh is Sue Killam Professor in the Foundations of Economics at University Texas and Professor of Economics at Royal Holloway University of London. His research concentrates on time use, labour demand, discrimination and unusual applications of labour economics. He authored several seminal books and a wide array of articles in labour economics in the leading general and specialized economics journals.
