The Anne Frank House is an independent organization in charge of preserving the Back House, the place where Anne Frank was hidden during World War II and where she wrote her diary. The memory of Anne Frank tries to be a source of inspiration to motivate all people to reflect on the dangers of anti-Semitism, racism and discrimination, as well as the importance of freedom, equality of rights and democracy. It’s part of the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam where Anne Frank hid from Nazi persecution with her family and four family friends. We work with young volunteers from the age of 14 years on receiving mostly school groups which deal with Anne’s story, the 2nd World War and the Holocaust transmission.

Philosophy

A unique interactive pedagogical experience that creates a space for reflection, learning and exchange. The activities are led by the museum’s team of young volunteers. The dissemination of Anne Frank‘s life story through innovative educational materials and exhibits is intended to:

  • Promote democratic values, human rights and cultural diversity and trying to achieve these objectives with the preparation and support of students.
  • Provide innovative educational materials and training programs - to students and their teachers - that will facilitate the process of reflection between the past and the present.
  • Create learning environments (of non-formal education) in which adolescents and young people can reflect on the local history of violence and civil wars through a pedagogy of memory.
  • Create awareness about past and present discrimination problems, to which young people with different social and cultural characteristics must face.
  • Promote a culture of peace and prevention of violence among young people around the world.

Date of foundation: Since 2000, travelling exhibitions have been designed about Anne Frank‘s life; in 2009 the house was opened.
