“Teach in India!” – Chemistry Didactics

In the second funding phase, this subproject focuses on further strengthening the collaboration with the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE) in Mumbai, India. The goal is a reciprocal exchange of qualified early-career educators (doctoral candidates and postdoctoral researchers) between the University of Potsdam and HBCSE. For up to one month, participants can work as guest lecturers in the respective partner country.

The initiative is led by the field of Chemistry Didactics but is explicitly open to educators from other STEM didactics disciplines as well. Guest lecturers will design and deliver professional development courses for in-service teachers and pre-service teacher students on site. A blended format combining in-person and online sessions is possible.

The aim is to provide practice-oriented and context-sensitive input while simultaneously strengthening international networks in the field of subject-matter didactics. Additionally, proven teaching concepts related to Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will be integrated.

The guest lecturers also act as multipliers: they not only contribute their expertise to the host institution’s teaching but also share their experiences with colleagues at their home institutions - for example, through early-career researcher days, colloquia, or informal exchange formats.
