The focus is on collaboration with the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (Austria).
A joint master's seminar is planned on the topics “Special Educational Needs/Disability: Innovations and Innovative Practices in Music Education and Music Teacher Education” and “Making Future”. In addition, students will participate in excursions to conferences organized by the EAS (European Association for Music in Schools).

Through English as the medium of instruction, students gain access to international research as well as to European approaches in music teacher education related to diversity in subject-specific teaching.

Planned Measures:

• Digital joint master’s seminar with an English-speaking guest lecturer (2025)
• Student participation in two international EAS conferences as part of excursion-based seminars (2025/26)
• Conclusion of a cooperation agreement with the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna to promote the mobility of students and academic staff

Field Trip to the EAS Conference in Vienna

From 8–11 April 2026, four Master's students in Music Education from the University of Potsdam participated in the EAS Conference in Vienna as part of an academic field trip. At the 33rd conference of the European Association for Music in Schools (EAS), researchers, music teachers, and music education students from across Europe came together to discuss the conference theme, “Advance Democracy: Participation, Diversity, and Social Cohesion in Music Education.”

The conference programme included keynote speeches, workshops, and presentations addressing current issues in music education related to democratic citizenship, participation, inclusion, and diversity. Through the field trip, the Potsdam students had the opportunity to engage with contemporary academic debates, explore a variety of conference formats, and connect with music education professionals from across Europe. One particular highlight was the Student Forum, a dedicated format created by and for students from different countries, who facilitated musical workshop activities and shared their perspectives. The conference’s social programme also included the Opening Ceremony at the Schönbrunn Palace Theatre, an evening concert at the Vienna Konzerthaus, and a Conference Dinner featuring an introductory course in traditional Austrian dances.

Following the excursion, the students organised an information session in the Chamber Music Hall on the Golm campus as part of their seminar requirements. They shared their experiences and presented selected conference topics to fellow students and staff. Participants were also able to engage with several approaches in practice, including methods of participatory choral improvisation and a digital Playtronica setup that enables collaborative music-making using everyday objects. The event highlighted the wide range of ways in which the students had engaged with the conference theme and demonstrated the relevance of these experiences both for their studies and for their future teaching practice.

The next EAS Conference will take place in Thessaloniki, Greece, from 22–25 April 2027.
