PhD-Day & PostDoc Day

A day for doctoral students and postdocs from the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences.

PhD & PostDoc Day is an annual series of events organized by the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences for our early-career researchers. The event is designed to provide opportunities for networking, professional exchange, and new inspiration for academic career development.

The early stages of an academic career constantly present new challenges - both professional and personal. The PhD & PostDoc Day specifically addresses these issues: Through lectures, panels, and interactive sessions, PhD students and postdocs from the faculty come together to learn from one another, exchange ideas, and build new connections.

The event kicks off with an introductory session that brings together doctoral students and postdocs from various departments and academic divisions. Throughout the day, the program features sessions on topics that are particularly relevant during the research training phase. In recent years, the program has included the following topics, among others:

  • Academic Writing & Successful Publishing: Experienced researchers share their insights on publication strategies and the path to a successful publication.
  • Career Paths in and Outside Academia: Alumni and professionals discuss their professional experiences and offer insights into various career paths after earning a doctorate.
  • Funding and Training Opportunities: Information on scholarships, securing external funding, and the support services offered by the Potsdam Graduate School.
  • Time Management & Work-Life Balance: Discussion of the practical challenges of everyday research life.
  • Open Forum: A space for feedback, ideas, and open questions regarding the doctoral student experience at the faculty.

The specific program varies from year to year and is tailored to the interests and needs of the participants. The goal: a day that is truly meaningful—both in terms of content and in terms of the human connection. The event usually concludes with a relaxed get-together that encourages further discussion.

The invitation, including all program details and information on how to get actively involved—for example, by giving a presentation, a short talk, or leading a workshop—will be sent via email in advance.

We look forward to your participation.
